Myers-Briggs

I needed a break and no one wanted to take one with me, so I took a Myers-Briggs Personality test. I think it did pretty well. Although, I wouldn't mind being a bookstore owner....

Vodka in Spaghetti Sauce

I'm exhausted today, I have no idea why, I went to bed at a good time, I woke up at a good time, what gives? My legs are killing me too. Dan picked a running route around the river that was all uphill on the one side. We did it in reverse yesterday, that was quite a bit easier. I think my legs are catching up to what I did with them the first time though.

The premiere of Gilmore Girls is on tonight! Yay! So many unanswered questions and the suspense, yep, I'm a geek.

The last time we were at the grocery store we noticed a new type of spaghetti sauce. It's flavouring was vodka. I'm not too sure how good this is going to be, I'm going to try it tonight. I get flashbacks to Dave's steak marinated in scotch when I hear this though. (It was not a pleasant experience, steak+scotch=gross)

With the switch to blogger beta everything is all messed up. So I decided to standardize the feed myself. So you can change your live bookmark address to the one below. http://feeds.feedburner.com/candicesmusings

Or if you have a myspace or an msn space, create a feed box and enter that link and voila, instant updates on your page from my site! Isn't the internet fun?

There, no more feed guess work!

Survived Bridal Show #1

I survived this weekend. I survived my first bridal show. 1000 brides packed into the basement of TCU Place (Centenniel Auditorium), they all brought their closest friends relatives and kids. I really just wanted to go to the fashion show and then dart back out. There were Mom's there telling the young brides what to do very forcefully and loudly, there were excited brides pushing their way everywhere! We ended up going to all the tables anyways, there were lots of free contests and stuff to be won. There were lots of free honeymoons given away. The fashion show was a good experience, I now know what the different types of material is called and how they hang. There was also lots of ideas. All in all it wasn't that bad and I survived. I got a tonne of coupons and information. Having Barbara there helped too since she's more laid back about this stuff just like I am. I survived.

I got a new wedding magazine for free there. Again, I still can't read the articles, they are too dumb but there's lots of pictures of pretty dresses. I get so annoyed with all this stuff because it's such a business! They sell all these little things for weddings that you must have, otherwise your day will not be perfect. It's really annoying.

Edmonton-mania

Another weekend come and gone. The Edmonton trip was interesting to say the least. We left for Edmonton after work on Friday, by the time we got on the road it was already 5. The wedding we went to was actually in a town called Westlock, an hour north of Edmonton. It was raining hard all the way on the drive there and it was dark. I made Dan drive, I don't like passing semi trucks when I can't see and they are tidal waving my car away. We had a McDonald's supper in North Battleford and made it to Westlock at about 11. We phoned to see where Dan's parent's were, we were sharing the hotel room with them, they hadn't left Regina yet. At 6am in the morning, there was a knock on our hotel door, it was them, they drove through the night. Since we were awake by 9 and didn't want to wake up Dan's parents, we had a McDonald's breakfast and decided to checkout the Westlock mall.

The mall consisted of a Rexall drugs and Liquidation World. But we managed to waste an hour in Liquidation World. Didn't buy anything though. Now if you've been counting we have had 2 greasy Mcdonald's meals in a row. That meant a trip to the washroom. I'm glad the mall had a washroom and we didn't have to subject the hotel washroom to that, it was not pleasant.

The wedding was nice. We were late to the church and late to the reception. It wasn't anything that surprised me though, I was in a go with the flow mood. Everyone was trying to prepare me for how casual this wedding was going to be but it was very nice! Very formal, most of the guests were dressed quite nice, I don't see what the whole fuss was about. The food was delicious, Turkey and Roastbeef and the bride went with an autumn theme, so you can imagine the desserts! Home made Pumpkin Pie, Apple Rhubarb Crisp, Apple Pie, Peach Pie, Strawberry Pie, we tried everything, they were all good.

Dan doesn't really know his extended family. That made for an interesting night. Most of them thought that I was the relative. They thought I was Dan's sister Carolyn, who is 10 years older than me and is on baby number 4. They didn't even see Dan, which made this all more funny. "You know, the guy in the blue shirt I was with?" Luckily Dan's cousin who was getting married knew who he was. I think that was the most important one. They had an open bar and lots of clamato, fun was had.

Sunday we spent the day in Edmonton with Dan's Grandpa. He was waiting for us to show up. He's lost a little weight since I've seen him last, but he still talked up a storm. One question triggers stories that are 30 mins long. This is the first time we've seen him in the senior's care home. He seems to enjoy it there, he especially likes the food there. He's doing pretty good for 91, that's for sure.

This week should be pretty lax. I'm looking forward to it. I don't really want to drive anywhere for a while.

Flavour of the week....

I would really like a ferret. Okay, gimme a chance here. I can't have pets here in the condo and I like to go places on weekends. So sneaking in a cat would be hard to do, especially since the building supervisors are everywhere! Also if a cat is yowling in the condo when I'm not home, that's a dead give away. But ferret's don't make a noise that would be audible to anyone outside of the condo and they like to travel in backpacks and duffel bags, thus making them easy to sneak out. They are litter trained, sleep during work and love to play and cuddle. Where's the down side to this? I'm going to sleep on this one for a couple weeks, and if it still bugs me, not having an animal around, I'll consider it.

Brett's flavour of the week, when I was there, was a puggle, a cross between a pug and a beagle.

Stuff is good

Just looked at the forecast today....there is a call for either rain or snow in Edmonton saturday. Another trip where I need to pack shorts and a winter coat. Crazy Canada. Other than that, going through a painfully slow moment at work today. I can't wait until the project actually gets planned and I can do real work again, that's much more entertaining. I felt like I read the whole internet today. It's only been an hour of boredom, I'm just not in a 'sit around and read the internet' mood. I want to do stuff.

Work finally announced the plan for moving downtown. Yay! That's exciting. We're supposed to move in January or February. That's perfect because I hate driving in snow and ice. This way it's a nice walk across the street and through the parking lot. They are even talking about subsidizing our parking downtown, which is cool for people that will drive there. I guess they were looking for an actual parking lot they could buy, but if you've been to downtown Saskatoon you know the problems associated with that.

They finally announced the date and selling price for the Nintendo Wii, that will be my only next generation console I've decided. I love my PS2 but I like fun quircky games and alot of the games for it are very serious and button skill intensive. You know, holding down one button to duck, while holding another to pull your gun out and using the 2nd joystick to aim, but all of a sudden I've forgotten why I'm holding down square, let go by accident, my guy stands up and gets shot and I start all over. Whatever happened to jump, switch weapons and shoot, what more do you need? Of course I say this now, until PS3 releases a new Dance Dance Revolution or Katamari and I'll be all over it.

Nacho theives, clothes, and shoes

Slow work day so far. Waiting for my bombardment of tasks, should be coming any minute. It's supposed to rain for 5 days straight here, then it's supposed to snow next week. Oh how I hate living in SK. But I do miss sweaters. Yes, you heard that right. They are comfy and cozy and no chance of getting cold in them. I'm wearing a really nice boat necked angora sweater right now. It's got argyle print on it, so cozy. Yes, it was also a Calgary purchase. Why buy sweaters in Calgary? Because I can find sweaters where the sleeves are long enough, that's why. Not only do I have freakishly long legs, I also have freakishly long arms. Oh the shopping woes don't end.

I implemented a running schedule for myself and outlined some goals and timelines. It's something I can be excited about and it's easy to do since my building has a treadmill for those days I don't want to go outside. I tried to vary the running workouts so I don't get bored, have some distance challenges, intervals, and pace challenges. It'll be good for me. On another note, my new runners keep on bruising my right big toe nail. I have no idea why this occurs, and why it doesn't happen on the other foot. It's so strange, it feels perfectly cozy in the runner, I don't understand. I also don't really notice it happening till the end of my runs, and by that time it's too late to do anything about it!

Going for yummy mexican food with Barb and Brant tonight. For some reason I cannot keep a full bag of nachos in the condo. Everyweek, it tops the grocery list, and every thursday, when I want nachos there are none. So then I'll buy 2 bags and they go twice as fast! They aren't the small bags either, they're the big bulk bags that come in 2 packs. I also have a fiance at the moment who's complaining about weight gain. Is there any correlation?

Catfights?

Girl world seems to go hand in hand with cat fights. Snide remarks, here and there, underlying competition, even in the most masculine of environments. Really women should just say what they mean. Instead they send these cryptic messages to each other or they intentionally hurt each other's feelings to get their points across. It's been so long since I've observed this! The last current memory of this is high school. After high school I didn't really hang out with any girls or socialize with any. It came hand in hand with my program. But, it was bliss at the same time. With the guys, you don't worry about hurting their feelings, you just tell them that they're being an ass and all is forgotten and forgiven within 10 mins. Hurtful remarks aren't taken to heart but rather taken jokingly. I think girls have this feeling that everything is a reflection of themselves. They are the center of everything, it gets to the point where they aren't empathetic and take everything seriously and then get deduced to cat fights. I mean you can't take everything so seriously, where's the fun in that? On the other hand, it's society and pop culture's fault. Girls have to fit an ideal of "pretty" and are blasted with these perfect media images from a very young age. Guys don't really have that pressure thrust upon them. Also you have retards writing books like "He's Just not that Into You" and passing it up as self help for the modern woman. And now this tard has his own television show!!! Yargh! The dumbening of a culture is occuring before our very eyes! Instead of empowering women, our culture is pigeon-holeing women to be catty, self-esteem ridden idiots with a tendancy towards narcissism. Good job everyone!

Miss. Fix-it

I'm good at fixing things. Since I was little I've been taking stuff apart and fixing it. Probably because when stuff was broken, I took it to my Dad, who then sat down with me, took it apart and showed me how to fix it. I remember I had to know how the engine worked in my 1st car and common problems with it, and how to fix a flat tire, before I could even touch it!

Last night Dan was trying to fix the bathroom door knob. He took it apart and was trying to figure out what was wrong. Once the hammer came out to fix the metal door knob, I had to jump in. I couldn't bare to see the door knob disinigrate in front of my face and possibly wreck my counter and floor. So I took a look at it, figured out how it worked and realized the problem right away. It's nothing a metal hammer could fix, a rubber one possibly, and all I got was flack and the "you think I'm stupid" speech. I recognise there's a learning curve for repairs if you've never done them before, but there's also an order of operations. As I was explaining why a hammer wouldn't fix the problem with an analogy I got an even more dirty look. Somehow I'm not supposed to know any of this? Logic and reasoning isn't good enough? I would love to do the household repairs but since Dan's not good at cleaning, I do most of that. Mouldy towels annoy me more than a broken door knob. I had to hand off something! Yes I could do it all, I'm not afraid of it, I know I can do it, but some things need to be delegated to keep it even. I wasn't trying to sound pretentious, or take it over, I thought I could help or educate or explain the reasoning and logic. But no, I'm not supposed to know any of that.

Who Cut the Cheese?

Had our housewarming bash on Friday. It was quite the mix of different people, but lots of fun. Old friends I've known from Grade 9 came, university friends, new friends, work friends, it was a good mix.

The inner hostess in me decided to make some appetizers for the party. So I flipped through my cookbooks and picked out a couple of dips that looked interesting and weren't very time consuming. So I settled on having a ham and cheeseball dip, railroad dip and the infamous nacho dip. The one thing I didn't pay attention was the amount of cheese that I was using in these dips. The railroad dip itself was just cheese, onions and mayo. So I stuffed my guests with cheese. Next time I'll have to watch out for that and provide some more variety. I'm sure their digestive tracts will thank me.

Yet another week

It's monday. Work is slow, I'm restless. I know just because I'm not busy right at the moment doesn't mean I'll be going crazy trying to get something done in the afternoon. I was sick all weekend too, that doesn't help my restlessness since I was asleep for most of the weekend.

Going to Edmonton on the weekend. Not real excited about it. Going to a wedding for Dan's cousins. I'm looking forward to seeing his Grandpa though.

I'm having a case of the blahs lately. Depression is such a nasty word, blah is more intuned to what I'm feeling. I don't really want to do anything or plan anything, I'm not really looking forward to anything and when I have an idea, people aren't as excited about it as I am or they shoot it down right away.

I need to find something that I do for me again. Whether it's work on my business or even just running and exercise, and make sure I set time aside for it every day. I don't think this would solve everything but it would get rid of half a blah. Now to brainstorm to get rid of the other half.

Heather and Colin were our first actual houseguests this weekend. (Not our Colin, James). I thought it went pretty well, other than I felt deathly ill. We played the mini golf course of doom (who in their right mind would make a course so hard? And where was the loop de loop?) at Market Mall and checked out the new Moxie's.

Wish I had some sort of rant to put on here, this is all senseless babble....

This Blog brought to you by Ikea

So here I sit in my brown uncut cord blazer with the satin bow and a peach lace blouse with the princess sleeves. (I've made it my mission to commentary every outfit I wear this week, I'm impressed with my Calgary fashion finds) I also find it interesting that I've never really studied fashion, yet I know all these terms.

Work is very unpredictable this week. Each morning I pick a bug, get close to fixing it, then after lunch I'm ready for testing, only to get pulled off into another project to start something completely different, which will be a rush job for the afternoon. Then I start all over the next day. So I've started coming in later, so that gives me more afternoon to ponder over these tasks. The problem is, that even though I'm sleeping in, I'm still tired at my non sleeping-in bedtime 10-11. I don't stay up for an extra couple hours so I just lose 2 hours of my day. I'm not okay with that, I have lots to do! Well luckily it's a short week.

I'm coming down with a cold, I'm in denial mode. My desk is covered in tylenol cold, green tea, fisherman's friends and vitamin C. Like, somehow, I can scare the cold away. Really, I think all this stuff is making me feel more sick, but if I'm well tomorrow, it'll be worth it and I will praise the evils of modern medicine.

As much as I'd like to hide it, my condo is sponsered by Ikea. Why? Because I'm too damn cheap to go anywhere else. I put together some of the pictures I bought from Ikea and hung them, then I realised that every picture in that place was originally from Ikea. Pictures are expensive! Ikea pictures are not. Pick a frame and a picture and voila! You have an elegant masterpiece usually for $15. It looks nice but if you study the Ikea catalog, you know, and they stick out like a sore thumb. I've come to peace with this. I'll look for other pictures, see the price and then come full circle, with going to Ikea for pictures.

Actually after we hung all those pictures last night and moved the living room lamp, it feels quite cozy in the condo. More like home. I don't think I'm going to buy anything for it for a while. Maybe just a tv stand. The other one is being held together by the weight of the tv itself. Which isn't safe, but it's working.

No wonder

Went on my trip to Calgary for the long weekend. It was everything I thought it could be! I slept so well on the weekend. Barbara and I shared an airmattress, so I didn't get kicked or elbowed in the face, it was sooooo nice. Brett's new condo is really nice, there was plenty of room there. I was expecting some sort of box hell, like when I moved, but he seems to be more organised, or has less stuff. He was a good host.

We did 8 1/2 hours of shopping on the weekend. Saturday we went to Signal Hill and to the Chinook mall. I bought myself some work tops that are comfy and warm. For once I didn't need pants! Thank you Tall Girl store in Saskatoon. Barbara did the pants dance, she found a few pairs but tried on over 100. Sunday we hit up Ikea. We spent 3 hours there and I didn't even get my TV stand. Oh well. I picked up little things for the condo, if we really want the tv stand, we're going to edmonton in a couple weeks, I guess. I felt bad for John though. We made him carry all of our stuff in Ikea. Our arms and shoulders were full. He must of been bored out of his mind, but I appreciated the help. I ended up getting a new duvet and cover the spare bed, some pictures, some bathroom stuff and a dining room table centerpiece, so I did pretty good over all.

I stuffed my face full of sushi, literally, until it would not go down into my stomach anymore. We went to the sushi bbq place. So non sushi lovers could have korean bbq. It worked really well. I ate so much! Also ate at the Olive Garden for lunch. I just had the soup, salad and breadsticks. Really, if I order a meal, I usually fill up on the above and can't eat my meal. So it worked out well.

Sunday night we were a little pooped so we bought some grocery store pizzas and cheap liquor ( 6 coolers for $8) and had a classic high school night. We played trapped and sociables, got really drunk and decided to go terrorize the neighborhood. John ended up rolling down a hill and into the gutter on to the street, Barbara rolled down a hill and got a sprikler in the boob, I decided to scale a fence and bruised and sliced my wrist pretty good. Only Brett got away with no injuries.

It was a good and much needed trip. I'm exhausted today, but my mind is rested and I feel much more calm. I drank alot, spent alot of money and did stupid stuff. At least I didn't ruin my memories of Calgary. Now back to work....

Save a horse, ride a cowboy

It's Calgary day today. I'm all excited and ready to go. I haven't been for a couple years. Unfortunately I'm not going to see the friends I made in Calgary, they are all busy. But I get to visit and stay with my good buddy Brett. He's nice enough to let me and Barbara stay with him only a week after he's moved into his new place. I get to go to Ikea and eat lunch at the Olive Garden and buy some clothes that fit me. I get to eat cheap sushi, maybe venture into China town and eat at the good vietnamese soup place. I know, I know, alot of the activities I mention here are eating. And that's fine right? Actually the whole mass consumerism nature of this trip is the reason I can not live in Calgary. I would never have any money. For me, Miss Drunky McLightweight, a typical night at the bar will cost me $100 to get drunk, and that's not including $10 cover! It's a nice place to visit, a fun place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. I will relish in these short visits.

That being said I've never driven myself from Saskatoon to Calgary. This will be a whole new experience. My car is full of maps and atlases in case I get lost. I don't think I will though, should be pretty simple. My iPod is all charged and ready to go, no worries about running out of tunes. I've got so much stuff on there I don't even know what's on there anymore. I had it on random earlier this week and it played a song by the Raconteurs and I had forgotten that I even had that cd!

I contemplated wearing my Save a horse, ride a cowboy tshirt this morning to get into the spirit. I then decided that since I had 3 meetings today that it probably wouldn't be a good idea. The answer of what constitutes a cowboy is spurs. I wore my shiny plaid urban cowgirl shirt instead, less creative innuendo defending with that one.
