Edmonton-mania

Another weekend come and gone. The Edmonton trip was interesting to say the least. We left for Edmonton after work on Friday, by the time we got on the road it was already 5. The wedding we went to was actually in a town called Westlock, an hour north of Edmonton. It was raining hard all the way on the drive there and it was dark. I made Dan drive, I don't like passing semi trucks when I can't see and they are tidal waving my car away. We had a McDonald's supper in North Battleford and made it to Westlock at about 11. We phoned to see where Dan's parent's were, we were sharing the hotel room with them, they hadn't left Regina yet. At 6am in the morning, there was a knock on our hotel door, it was them, they drove through the night. Since we were awake by 9 and didn't want to wake up Dan's parents, we had a McDonald's breakfast and decided to checkout the Westlock mall.

The mall consisted of a Rexall drugs and Liquidation World. But we managed to waste an hour in Liquidation World. Didn't buy anything though. Now if you've been counting we have had 2 greasy Mcdonald's meals in a row. That meant a trip to the washroom. I'm glad the mall had a washroom and we didn't have to subject the hotel washroom to that, it was not pleasant.

The wedding was nice. We were late to the church and late to the reception. It wasn't anything that surprised me though, I was in a go with the flow mood. Everyone was trying to prepare me for how casual this wedding was going to be but it was very nice! Very formal, most of the guests were dressed quite nice, I don't see what the whole fuss was about. The food was delicious, Turkey and Roastbeef and the bride went with an autumn theme, so you can imagine the desserts! Home made Pumpkin Pie, Apple Rhubarb Crisp, Apple Pie, Peach Pie, Strawberry Pie, we tried everything, they were all good.

Dan doesn't really know his extended family. That made for an interesting night. Most of them thought that I was the relative. They thought I was Dan's sister Carolyn, who is 10 years older than me and is on baby number 4. They didn't even see Dan, which made this all more funny. "You know, the guy in the blue shirt I was with?" Luckily Dan's cousin who was getting married knew who he was. I think that was the most important one. They had an open bar and lots of clamato, fun was had.

Sunday we spent the day in Edmonton with Dan's Grandpa. He was waiting for us to show up. He's lost a little weight since I've seen him last, but he still talked up a storm. One question triggers stories that are 30 mins long. This is the first time we've seen him in the senior's care home. He seems to enjoy it there, he especially likes the food there. He's doing pretty good for 91, that's for sure.

This week should be pretty lax. I'm looking forward to it. I don't really want to drive anywhere for a while.
