So I made it to Saskatoon. I started my new job. There's lots I need to learn but I have a leg up on the other people starting this project so I feel pretty good about that. I get to write some SNMP-net stuff and some SNMP MIBs so that's pretty cool. Alot of it has to do with Perl and I'm a Perl master so I'm not too overwhelmed. My first task my first day was, here's a computer, install it with any version of Linux you like, but we prefer you use ubuntu. So that was pretty cool. I partitioned it to use ubuntu and mandriva. I thought I should learn ubuntu because everyone else uses it but I still like Mandriva better.
I'm going to a vodka party tonight at Overdrive. I get 15 free vodka drinks, I think tomorrow will be tough. Thank goodness for the flexible work hours. As long as you're here between 9:30 and 3:30, they don't care when you show up and leave as long as you put in your 7.5 hours. I think tomorrow will be a 9:30 day.
There's a ping pong table and collection of board games in the lunch room here. I have yet to see anyone play any of it. Seems like such a shame. I'd play it on a break, but people don't really take those here. Not even lunch breaks half the time! As you see I'm kinda lacking in the friends department so far, but it's early. When I get bored enough I will target some poor sole to take a break with me.
Heather is coming on the weekend. We should have a good time. Marshall metioned sushi on the weekend too, we'll see if he remembers ;) My convocation is on Tuesday next week and I will be back for that, I need to take an unpaid day unfortunately. Who the heck schedules that stuff for a tuesday, I mean really people? I've your finals are done early april and you convocate on a tuesday in June, chances are you have a job, are still fairly new, and can't take a day off to go.
I miss my friends in Regina and my cat. That'll take some getting used to. For now I've been so busy that I haven't had much time to dwell on it. There's still so much I need to do.
