So I made it to Saskatoon. I started my new job. There's lots I need to learn but I have a leg up on the other people starting this project so I feel pretty good about that. I get to write some SNMP-net stuff and some SNMP MIBs so that's pretty cool. Alot of it has to do with Perl and I'm a Perl master so I'm not too overwhelmed. My first task my first day was, here's a computer, install it with any version of Linux you like, but we prefer you use ubuntu. So that was pretty cool. I partitioned it to use ubuntu and mandriva. I thought I should learn ubuntu because everyone else uses it but I still like Mandriva better.
I'm going to a vodka party tonight at Overdrive. I get 15 free vodka drinks, I think tomorrow will be tough. Thank goodness for the flexible work hours. As long as you're here between 9:30 and 3:30, they don't care when you show up and leave as long as you put in your 7.5 hours. I think tomorrow will be a 9:30 day.
There's a ping pong table and collection of board games in the lunch room here. I have yet to see anyone play any of it. Seems like such a shame. I'd play it on a break, but people don't really take those here. Not even lunch breaks half the time! As you see I'm kinda lacking in the friends department so far, but it's early. When I get bored enough I will target some poor sole to take a break with me.
Heather is coming on the weekend. We should have a good time. Marshall metioned sushi on the weekend too, we'll see if he remembers ;) My convocation is on Tuesday next week and I will be back for that, I need to take an unpaid day unfortunately. Who the heck schedules that stuff for a tuesday, I mean really people? I've your finals are done early april and you convocate on a tuesday in June, chances are you have a job, are still fairly new, and can't take a day off to go.
I miss my friends in Regina and my cat. That'll take some getting used to. For now I've been so busy that I haven't had much time to dwell on it. There's still so much I need to do.

Grade 11 Poetry
While packing I was cleaning out my closet and found a big box of stuff from high school. Notes and stuff you used to get from friends, all that sort of thing. I had actually thought that I had thrown all this stuff away. I do remember throwing some of it away but now I kinda remember saving some things.
Here's a Poem I wrote in Grade 11, you'll think it sucked, I thought it was pretty good.
When can I say what I mean
How do you know I am what I am
If seeing is believing how do you know what I mean?
You were always in the shadows
But came in the spotlight only
to steal it away from me
Then you pushed me down
To think I loved you and
gave you the time of day
only makes me feel worse
and down I go
We were the perfect ones in
everyone's eyes but my own
They didn't know what happened and never will

Soundtrack of my Life
I stole this from James' blog and decided to give it a try for myself. I need a break from packing anyways.
Instructions: Set your MP3 player on shuffle! Come up with a soundtrack for your life, or a movie based on your life, or something, I dunno.
Opening Credits
Criminal Piece - Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. That's an awesome way to start a movie!
Waking Up
Freak Out - Avril Lavigne. So far this is quite accurate, that's exactly what happens as I'm waking up (keep it inside, just freak out let it go)
An Ordinary Day
The Dance version of Listen to your Heart.
Perfect! So far so good. (I don't know where I'm going or why......big techno solo)
Falling in Love
Taking Back Sunday - Friends. This is fitting too because it's about a guy who can't tell a girl friend how he feels about her. I'm not rigging my iPod!
The Rumble
Moving into Light - Black Fras Well this is a pretty lame rumble let me tell you that. Unless there's some sort of spacy rave scene or breakdancing in my rumble. Maybe there's a guy doing the robot in the background of my rumble?
The Break-Up
Murder on the Midnight Wire - Bedouin Soundclash Well I am evil so this could be fitting. (It was a bang bang bang, the public wants an answer tonight)
Getting Back Together
Let Me Out - Future Leaders of the World
That's the most depressing get back together song ever! (let me out, let me out I'm singing, I'm a lier and a cheater)
Life is Good Montage
49 % - Royksopp (49 % is 1% short of half and short of half is really nothing) It has a really catchy dance beat to it though. It would be good for a montage. Good for a montage of me walking into doors or falling, I seem to do that alot.
The Breakdown
Cut Up Angels - The Used This is a depressing song for a breakdown
Adrift
Sidewalks - Story of the Year This song always plays when i'm adrift, that was a lucky match.
The Flashback
Radio - The Ataris I guess it fits, but it's talking about starting a brand new revolution with radio requests because they always play the same songs anyways.
The Party
Maybe Memories - The Used (I'm not a stalker now, cause I'm alive, lots of screaming) This party would be overrun by a bunch of angst filled guys who are self loathing. I'm not sure this would be the best party. Perhaps it'd be okay as long as I had a pineapple filled with alcohol.
The Dance Break
Such Great Heights - Iron and Wine Wow. People would fall asleep during this dance break. I have a ton of euro dance songs and this one had to pop up?
Regrets
Off By Heart - City and Colour This is a good one. (I will still follow you, will you know enough to stay brave)
The Long Night
Given the Chance - The Starting Line Well this song isn't that long. I guess if I were worried this would be a good song. It's not a long night of partying song
A Death
Look What You've Done - Jet (Take my photo off the wall if it just won't sing for you, cause all that's left is gone away and there's nothing left for you to prove. Look what you've done, you've made a fool of everyone) I think it's suiting, I obviously didn't like this person that died though.
End Credits
The Taste of Ink - The Used One of my favorite songs, sure why not? (So here I am, it's in my hands, and I'll savour every moment of this) It would be suiting but the tone of it is kinda spiteful.
Moral Centralia - Harvey Danger I've got to end my movie on that note, that would be awesome.

Pineapples for all!
Before I left for the weekend on Friday, James gave me a little going away gift. A pineapple slicer/juicer and a pineapple and crazy straws! Okay so to you this may not sound very exciting but to me, having a cocktail in an actual pineapple shell is really really really cool. I was very ecstatic, so I decided to document my first attempt at using the slicer.

Step #1 - grab a pineapple and a slicer

Step #2 - Cut the top off of the pineapple with the biggest knife you can possibly find.

Step #3 - Jab the pineapple slicer into the top of the pineapple and twist!

Step #4 - Don't twist too far or else you end up going through the bottom and destroying your nice pineapple glass and losing your juice.

Step #5 - Pull out the slicer and you have a nice pineapple ring

Step #6 - Drink the juice, unfortunately not in a cool pineapple cup ( I guess I need to practise)

Step #7 - Enjoy the pineapple ring
This is how you enjoy a pineapple slicer. I will be eating alot of pineapples this summer to perfect the technique. Thanks again James, this couldn't have been possible without you.

The Beatles would be proud
I've realised that all you have to do is spaz out on the internet and you get help with things. Sarah is helping me tons with the planning for the parties now and people in my office are organising my going away shindig next week. I'm so happy for all of this. This takes tonnes of stress off me. I can now focus on where I'm going to live and packing and enjoying the last little bit of time I have in Regina. I've also been able to talk about some of my worries about moving to people. I thank everyone who listened and had advice. It really helped. I feel less nervous now and more like myself. I need to learn how to ask for help or ask people to listen instead of bottling everything up. There's only so much of that I can take out on myself physically before it comes to a big explosion. It doesn't happen often but I think that would probably be a good step in the right direction. I'm so used of depending on myself for everything that I need to realize that it is okay to depend on other people and ask for some help. I always have the motto that if I don't do something it's not going to get done at all. That's not necessarily true. If I ask, it might. Don't expect miracles from me though. Habits like these are hard to change. I never want to be entirely dependent on someone, I need to know that I can always take care of myself, but a little help once in a while can't hurt.

Mind's a Wandering
Lunchtime, it's nice out, I'm bored. Maybe I'll go for a walk. I don't want to wander around the mall. I have so much going through my mind that it pains me to sit still for a couple minutes. I feel so nervous and on edge. I need to do some more packing for Saskatoon. Some of my Mom's friends donated some nice kitchen stuff for me to take with me. That was really nice of them. Then there's the whole looking for a condo thing. It's hard to find something that's nice and where you want it! All the nice places aren't anywhere close to where I work. Then there's all the party planning for Heather's wedding and no one has RSVPd and that's stressing me out. They've only got til this friday to reply and then I'm buying supplies based on that and so far it's only 1 outside of the actual wedding party. Then there's all the stuff I would like to buy for the new condo. It pains me not to buy anything, I see so much stuff I like but I need to know where I'm living to buy it so that it fits and that I don't have to move it twice. I feel like I'm on the edge of a nervous breakdown. I just don't know where to start. I'm trying to take things one at a time but the mind keeps on wandering. It's my last week here next week and people are talking about parties and going out for drinks. I can not organize the world people! I need some help!

Pieces Mended
I feel a little more relaxed now. I had lunch with Colin today, he made me realize I wasn't the only one going hectically crazy. I feel better after hearing that. Work is crazy today! I've got a bunch of support work to do, I missed my morning coffee break. I actually had a bunch of errands to do downtown today. Oh well I guess I can always come back tonight, it's my day off tomorrow. I kinda sat down and prioritized some things last night too, that helped tremendously! Now I'm not going "I need to do this, this and this" all the time, one worry at a time.
It's mother's day weekend. I'll be out to the lake on Sunday. I hope it's nice out, I want to go canoeing. I never thought I would like canoeing but I do, it's very quiet and peaceful. The paddle boat is a little loud and you end up scaring all the wild life away. Heather's b-day party is on Saturday, we're going to head to McNally's, there's a really good band playing there. I'm looking forward it.
I went for my first rollerblade of the season yesterday. I'm not even sore today, I rock! Phil and I rollerbladed by his new fancy dancy house which is close to Wascana Park. It's certainly a prime a location for outdoorsy people. I will have to see if I can do the same with the condo in Saskatoon.

End of an era
I just sent in my formal resignation letter. I can't help but feeling a little sad. It's the end of all opportunities in Regina, things to come and things that will never be. Is this what I want? Working for a private company where I get a raise and same benefits is hard to come by in Sask, that's an opportunity I can't pass up, but how much weight do I put on my personal life and professional career? What balance should they hold? I know I'll probably be able to come back to this position in the future, but everything is moving so fast. This week I've been told I will be missed greatly by many people for lots of different reasons, looked at condos, filled out a prequalification for a mortgage and packed up odds and ends. I can't help but feel uneasy and off about the whole thing. Am I just nervous, or am I intuitively telling myself something. I generally do have good instincts about stuff like this. I feel so on edge.
My boss asked me yesterday if I was sure I still wanted to go. He was totally joking but I was about to leap up and say just kidding, I'm staying, glad I fooled ya. But it got me thinking that even though I have sent in this letter I still have a choice. A choice I thought I already made. It's just nerves, go with it, you'll survive.

Best week ever....
I got a new job! I'd be working for a different company in Saskatoon, I get a raise and I get to keep all my benefits and I get to do some cool programming and development. I'm so excited! I will start in 3 weeks! So I need to move my stuff to Saskatoon and I get to look for a condo. It's so exciting. I can't wait to go. I'm going to really miss the people at this job, I've made some good friends and have some really good co workers, but I belong in Saskatoon. Sad but true.
My income tax refund came yesterday too! I'm trying not to spend it all but to put some in my savings. That looks rather bleak at the moment. My parents made me take them out for supper yesterday to celebrate my new job. I was a little irratated about that at first but they did pay for my university, helped me out a bit with my 1st new car, the 2002 Saturn SC, and it looks like they are going to help alot with the wedding, so I guess that's only fair.
I'm going to move my stuff to Saskatoon in waves. Everyone has been so thoughtful and volunteering to help in all this! I'm so grateful for all of it. I never had this much help when I moved to Calgary and I had more stuff to move there, so I'm so grateful for everyone who wants to help me now.
I'm making mental notes of stuff I need for the apartment. All my old stuff from Calgary went out to the lake and I'm wondering if I should make a fuss and reclaim it all or just get new stuff. I know it might start a fight of "you didn't buy that, I did!" and I generally remember that stuff pretty well because I put so much thought into what I buy, from measuring cups to spatulas to can openers.
And the decorating! It'll be so much fun.

Reclaiming the Throne
It's been a great day today. I was feeling sick yesterday but I feel 100 times better today. Then I went to go buy my morning coffee from the cafeteria and they gave me a contest card and I won 1L of aquafina water. Then I opened up my paycheck and got my one year raise. The only thing that could make this day better is if I got my tax refund today too.
My sister is off galavanting in Europe for the month. I got my bathroom back! I took all 30 bottles of various hair and face stuff off the counter in the bathroom and it went into the drawer. All the clean space, it's glorious. I might even be able to do my hair and makeup in there again. Ah my bathroom. This may not sound exciting to you but it's awesome for me.
I forgot to charge my iPod last night, so I have no tunes today. But luckily it's been quiet around here so far, I might not need it. I have a breakfast meeting at Mings pretty soon here. Yes, Mings serves breakfast, no it does not taste like egg rolls. But I do enjoy my fortune at the end.
